مؤخرا بدأت الإشاعات تحوم حول الجيل القادم من تويوتا هايلوكس والتي من ضمنها أنه سيتم تفيره بالخيار ذو الطابع الرياضي تحت تسمية هايلوكس GR مما يناسب شريحة الشباب من الزبائن أكثر.تتضمن الإشاعات أيضا حول توفر محرك جديد بالكامل بسعة 2.8 ليتر لكن لم يتم بعد تحديد نوع الوقود لكن من المرجح أنه سيكون من فئة الديزل وهو أمر لا بد منه في فئة الشاحنات الخفيفة بسبب التمتع بالعزم العالي على سرعات الدوران المنخفضة.

لم يجري بعد التأكيد على الموعد الرسمي لإطلاق تويوتا هايلوكس الجديد لكن من المتوقع إطلاقه في وقت لاحق من عام 2020 كطراز لعام 2021.
