تتميز فورد موستانج KR GT500 بأنه جرى استخدامها في مسلسل “Knight rider” الذي تم بثه عام 2008 ولغاية عام 2009 حيث أنه لم يتم إكماله بسبب نسبة المشاهدة الضعيفة علما أن الغاية منه كان لإعادة إحياء ذات المسلسل الشهير سابقا في الفترة ما بين 1982 ولغاية 1986 والذي قام ببطولته آنذاك الممثل الشهير دايفيد هاسلهوف.
بخلاف النسخة الكلاسيكية التي تألقت خلالها سيارة بونتياك ترانس ام فقد تم الإستعانة بالبداية بطراز شيلبي GT500 الشهير مخصص للمسلسل إلا أنه بسبب عدم جاهزية السيارة فقد تم التحول لإحدى طرازات موستانج GT الإعتيادية مع تركيب الزوائد الخارجية التي توفر لها مظهرا شبيها بنظيرتها من شيلبي.
أبرز ما يميز السيارة من الخارج هو وجود الماسح الضوئي الأحمر المزدوج في المقدمة على غرار ما كان يتم في النسخة السابقة من “Knight rider” في ثمانينيات القرن الماضي والغاية من ذلك جمع المعلومات المطلوبة لمساعدة البطل على إكمال مهامه.
تحتوي فورد موستانج KR GT500 على محرك مكون من 8 إسطوانات بشكل V8 بسعة 4.6 ليتر ويتصل بشاحن سوبرتشارجر، أصبح ناتج القوة يبلغ 400 حصان مما ساعد على توفير الأداء المطلوب.
تتضمن التعديلات الميكانيكية للسيارة نظام تعليق معدل لتوفير المزيد من الثبات والإستعانة بالمكابح من شركة بريمبو لتوفير السيطرة الكافية، تم أيضا تركيب نظام عادم يوفر هدير مماثل لطراز شيلبي GT500.
تم الإبقاء على علبة التروس الأوتوماتيكية المكونة من 5 نسب وكان الغاية من ذلك مساعدة طاقم التمثيل للتركيز على أداء أدوراهم بصورة أفضل من أجل إنجاز العمل بأقل وقت ممكن.
